General's Bcst Ops

-1943: General Tire and Rubber Company enters broadcasting with its purchase of The Yankee Network, Incorporated and its stations, which continue to operate under the Yankee Network banner. 


-1948: General Teleradio formed, combining stations from the Yankee Network and a fledgling Boston television station.


-1950 *or* January 1951: General Tire and Rubber purchases Thomas S. Lee Enterprises Incorporated, doing business as The Don Lee Network, Incorporated.


-1952, the company took over control of the Mutual Broadcasting System


-1953, General Tire and Rubber purchased the Bamberger Broadcasting Company owner of WOR AM/FM/TV New York, WOIC tv Washington and shares of the Mutual network and merged it into the Don Lee Network.


-1955: After purchasing RKO Radio Pictures, all the stations General Tire owned merged into General Teleradio Incorporated.

General Tire merged its broadcasting and film operations into RKO Teleradio Pictures Incorporated


-1958: General Teleradio takes over RKO Radio Network.
